Roy J. Jones Obituary

On  April 19, 2024, Mr. Roy J. Jones, 77, of Macon, Georgia, met his precious lord and is at peace.   Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 29, 2024, in the Chapel of Hart’s at the Cupola. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.  Burial will follow the service at Macon Memorial Park Cemetery.

Son of the late Elijah Jones and Evelyn Gordon Jones, Roy was born on September 26, 1946, in Macon.  His life was marked by his unwavering commitment to education and community service. After graduating from Willingham High School, he extended his studies and earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Georgia College. He retired from DFCS in Twiggs County, where he served as a supervisor over the protection of children and the elderly from abuse. Roy had a lifelong love for helping children as he served as the director of the Bibb County Children’s Home and taught biology at Northside High School in Warner Robins, Georgia. He also served as a tennis coach at Northside High.

Known for his deep faith, Roy was a dedicated student of the Bible, studying it daily and living by its teachings, which led his wife to regard him as the greatest Christian she ever knew. He was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Roy balanced his spiritual and professional pursuits with a love for sports and recreation. This love was demonstrated by coaching or playing tennis, playing volleyball, or rooting for the Georgia Bulldogs.

Roy is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Donna Duffell Jones, of Macon; daughter, Tina Jones Ashley (Dennis), of Macon; grandchildren: Ashleigh McDonald (Collin), of Dallas, Georgia, Bowen Powers, of Macon, Joseph Ashley, of McDonough, Georgia, Sergeant Miles Avery Jones, of Oceanside, California, and Olivia Caroline Jones, of Oceanside, California; great grandchild, Greyson McDonald, of Dallas, Georgia; sister, Dorothy Stewart, of Mt. Gilead, North Carolina; nieces, Sandra Petroutsa of Jacksonville, Florida and Lisa Worley (Robert), of Mt. Gilead, North Carolina; and special friend, Jessie Harrell, of Macon.

In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his son, Steven Roy Jones; stepdaughter, Kimberly Herin; sisters, Virginia Jones and Martha Jones; and faithful canine companion, Carmen.
